Applied Research

Under this category the Center usually initiates studies and projects on its own to examine specific economic development issues in the region. Examples include conducting a policy impact study on an economic development project, or initiating a concept definition type study.

South Texas Alternative Future Project

The Center is working on a multi-faceted project designed to examine long-term trends in the South Texas region and their potential impact on the region's future. It includes the development of several alternative scenarios depicting possible future conditions based on certain trends and projections.

Community Profile/Modeling Initiative

The Center, in conjunction with the Institute for Economic Development (IED) is exploring several tools and techniques such as Implan modeling and GIS mapping systems to analyze local economic conditions. The intent is to create new ways to profile local economies to enhance marketing and planning activities.

Corridor Development

The Center is developing a series of models designed to facilitate corridor development in the South Texas region. The goal is to ring together critical assets and resources in a region to maximize its economic growth potential.

Renewable Energy Project

The Center and several partners are conducting a long-range study focusing on the potential of using renewable energy systems and technologies to foster economic growth in the South Texas Region.

South Texas Growth Strategy

The Center and several partners are developing an economic growth strategy for the South Texas regon. In 2007, the Center released its first report in conjunction with this project titled: Building a Regional Economic Growth Strategy for South Texas - Putting the Pieces Together.
